Ah. So much has happened. New dog, I turned 41, Hannah turned 10...the list goes on.

Emily is a 4 month-old border collie, who has been with us since the start of summer. She is mostly black with a white nape and four white paws. She will probably be big for a border collie, but she's anything but scary. When she's not asleep, her tail is wagging almost constantly. She absorbs a lot of abuse (from Patrick mainly), but her disposition is always sunny.

I got a nice t-shirt for my birthday, and another one for Father's Day. No party this year, because I'm lazy. And Linda is overworked. Hannah had a nice party at a park near our house. She is just getting to the age where toys take a back seat to clothes and cosmetics. Although she did get the video game gene from her old man. I don't know whether to construe that as a good thing or not.

ALS seems to be burning the midnight oil to take away what little I have left. My hands are complaining after even this little bit of keyboarding. But it's not just physical. I ran out of my anti-anxiety medication for a few days. Yeesh. That was a rough few days. Linda explained to the kids and me that the only reason I needed it was because I was craven, and didn't have the courage to face the grim realities of my disease. Not surprisingly, I don't wholly concur. My anxiety attacks are usually triggered by something, like a choking episode. The Zoloft doesn't provide chemical escapism. In fact it doesn't prevent me from being nervous when I can't clear something from my windpipe. But it sure takes the edge off. If that qualifies for cowardice, paint a big yellow stripe down my back.

Some upcoming things that I'm excited about are attending the Steely Dan concert on the 15th and visiting my parents later this month. Something I'm not looking forward to is the nursing home. But that may have a happy ending, so stay tuned.
