Happy retirement to me,
Happy retirement to me,
Happy re-tire-ment to me-eee,
Happy retirement to......oh, you know the rest.

I have been rebuked for not apprising my fellow Ranks (and any other interested parties) of my status quo. Here is an attempt to put things right.
The big BIG news is my impending retirement. I have filed the paperwork, and if everything goes smoothly (<1% chance), October 14th will be my last official work day. I will be doing part time work on a contract basis, so in addition to my disability benefits, I'll be getting income from the part time work and probably some musical work, too. Why retire now? The thing that really sealed the deal for me was how tired I was coming home. After 9 or 10 hours of work here, I'd be useless to my family when I walked in the door at 6:30. My neck, back, and voice would be really tired, and I didn't have any energy left for doing things I like to do, like reading or playing the piano. With this arrangement, I will still work and be paid for it, but I will have a lot more latitude with my hours and the stress level will be much lower.
In other news, the company is still afloat, and the outcome of the recent trip to the company in Denver will be made known on 15 October. That is when their project budget will be approved, and, consequently, when we will find out if we are included in that budget. I'm sorry to omit all the names of the companies, but I could get in trouble by divulging sensitive information. So email me if you're curious and prepared to swear an oath of secrecy, and we'll do lunch.
Cole and I will be playing together for his 4th grade talent show. He'll be on bass, and I'll play piano. We're going to play some 12 bar blues. Hannah and I went out for dinner on 7 October, and I lavished attention on her. She drank it up like a sponge. Ryan and Patrick are still diverging personality-wise. Ryan seems like a really short six year-old until he does some age-appropriate thing like crying over a toy that's been comandeered by Patrick. Patrick seems like he's working up some new form of autism. The trip from the front door to the car is way too much for him. And despite his best efforts to eat nothing but sugar and carbohydrates, he's a little ball of muscle. But he's Ferdinand the Bull, too. Ryan can (and does) terrorize him frequently and enthusiastically. Linda is going from the frying pan into the fire, mentor-wise. She is now student teaching under a bitter, arrogant, petty, despotic wench who will look like Snow White compared to the hell-spawn that LInda gets next.
